The Queensland Police Service (QPS) vision is to create a thriving workplace that promotes mental health and wellbeing where all employees realise their full potential. The QPS is committed to increasing awareness, reducing stigma and fostering a supportive and healthy culture.
Beyond Blue’s ‘Answering the Call’ – National Mental Health and Wellbeing study of Police and Emergency Services (2018) indicated that 12% of Queensland Police employees reported very high levels of psychological distress, with 14% of employees reported that they had thought about suicide. Additionally, 34% of employees felt that often their work drains so much of their energy that it has a negative effect on their private life.
We also know that, when it comes to seeking help for mental health and wellbeing issues, 82% of employees prefer managing their problems themselves rather than seeking help from a health professional, with 29% using the internet to research information.
Because of this, the wellbeing.ourpeoplematter website was created for current an former employees, and their family and friends, helping them to access information about mental health and wellbeing issues, and services that may be of further assistance.
